I talked with the Hercules representative who atteaued the
Dow e»eting on the 2,4,5-T problaa. He ms Or. Jack Frauley,
a toxicologist.

It appears the presentation was the sabs as the one you and
I were given. Representatives of dasond and Hooker were there.
Dr. Frewley stated that Dow told the various eoespanies in private
what the content of dloxane teas in their 2,4,5-T acid. I
gathered that Diamond and Hooker had sobs hut Hercules stated
they were told they bad none.
It appeared to Frawley that Dow was having this setting because
they did not think they could, in conscience, not tell industry
about their findings. Hercules also aoess to believe that the
Public Health Service would be very happy to get into the act,
whether or not the c .loraene exists in the ultiisate user. I
sust agree with thea about this and it would aeea almost man­
datory that we see if we can first fires up our analytical oethode
and then devise trays to sinJLaire the presence of this known
chlorecne agent,

There is also another very good reason for us to do thit. Re­
gardless of what we think of the rabbit test, thir dloxane
cospound Bust be a potent contaalnant. Very conceivably, it
can be a potent carcinogen. We, therefore, will never know how
close we are to having another epidemic at Hitro, and we cer­
tainly don't want to go through that again.
I sa going to be out of the country until about April 20, but
Dr. Johnson and Kr. fcheeler are quite familiar with the. various
aspects of this problem «tnd are available for discussions.
